The Coordinator, Inventory & Stores incumbent is responsible for managing the site’s inventory, inventory transactions and direct supervision, training and safety of hourly employees and or suppliers.  


The incumbent will follow all Canfor’s Procedures with respect to Inventory Management practices, Canfor Preferred Supplier agreements and all consignment inventory programs at the mill including vending machines. This position is also responsible for identification and disposal of obsolete parts/materials in conjunction with the corporate scrap & salvage program.


As part of inventory management responsibilities, the incumbent will ensure that parts are stocked at optimum stocking levels which best support the principals of Asset Management, Planning, Scheduling and Reliability, including a focus on inventory standardization, reducing product lines and working with local suppliers to explore consignment inventory options. 


he/she must ensure the designates perform duties within approved policies and procedures; he/she must coach and act as mentor to all Warehouse personnel, organizing and/or co-ordinating required training and ensuring that he/she has the required skills to perform the job.


Major Duties:

  • Maintain the highest standards with respect to safety at all times through leading by example and ensuring your team follows all Company policies, procedures and WorkSafeBC Regulations.
  • Provide direction and performance development support for your team members and foster a highly effective working relationship with all employees.
  • Responsible for the warehouse and the functions of the warehouse inventory management including but not limited to: purchasing, receiving, storing, and issuing of stores inventory and efficient utilization of the inventory.
  • Communicate with vendors, corporate buyer and accounts payable to ensure timely delivery of parts and timely payment of invoices.
  • Check for stock availability through use of the Synergen system.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Liaise with the Maintenance Planner for requisition, and inventory requirements relating to the planning and scheduling of maintenance activities.
  • Keep abreast of current legislation pertaining to Federal and Provincial tax laws and custom and excise regulations.  Responsible for the review of all taxes on all purchase orders issued from the division.



The successful candidate will bring the following experience and expertise:

  • Proven ability to work as a team player
  • Background in inventory management and purchasing.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a unionized environment would be an asset
  • Aptitude and comfort with computers and programs:  MS Office and Synergen (or equivalent),
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills,
  • Willingness to learn new concepts and adapt to changing environments,
  • Mechanical aptitude, analytical and mathematical skills
  • CPP designation or equivalent mastery of principles and theories combined with 3+ years of relevant experience, and,
  • Understanding of maintenance planning and preventative maintenance programs.
