At Canfor, we know that our people and our communities thrive when their workplaces are inclusive, equitable and diverse. It’s why we’re committed to making sure that every person, regardless of gender, race or ability has the opportunity to be successful. We’re focused on creating these opportunities for women to advance at Canfor and the forestry industry. There’s no better time to explore a career with Canfor and help us build an inclusive and diverse forest sector.

To me, diversity means there are opportunities, regardless of gender or race. Throughout my 25+ years with Canfor, I’ve experienced inclusion and diversity through cross-training opportunities and advancement. I began working for Canfor as a Chop Saw Operator and have since worked as a Finger joint Feeder and am currently a CRP Technician. I&D motivates employees to give their best and to be loyal to the company. I’ve seen the development of inclusion at Canfor through the transparency of my management team and the value they place on including the rest of the team in decision making. For example, when Marion needed to run more hours, the management team held a meeting with all.

When I started with Canfor as a summer student right out of high school, I remember many times working with crews and going to meetings and trainings where I was the only woman. That was 40 years ago and it was a lot different. I’m extremely proud of the changes we’ve made to help us move the needle around diversity and inclusion and develop leaders to advance our organization. Anyone can be successful at Canfor. It doesn’t matter who you are because our culture rewards hard work, ownership, and accountability.

Inclusion impacts the way we work as a team. I see inclusion at Canfor every day, whether it’s regular meetings with the management team, transparency about opportunities, or safety initiatives that include all employees, not just the safety committee. I think accessibility and making sure that opportunities are available to everyone who is interested are important in supporting diversity. Working with a team with different backgrounds and experiences allows us to innovate and avoid harmful habits like groupthink. At Canfor especially, Inclusion & Diversity is important for ensuring everyone’s safety and the success of the business.

To foster a more inclusive and equitable culture and increase the diversity in our workforce, we’re committed to improving opportunities for all employees with a strong focus on under-represented groups at Canfor. For women, this means more inclusive hiring, mentorship programs, development opportunities, awareness training about inclusion and diversity, employee networking resources and more.
