Diverse backgrounds, abilities, experiences and points of view make us stronger.

It results in improved teamwork, better problem-solving, increased innovation, and a safer and more welcoming culture and workplace. Our goal is to foster a more inclusive and equitable culture and increase the diversity in our workforce.

I've always felt part of a team at Canfor. When I joined the company, everyone was so willing to guide me and it's felt like we're a family. I appreciate that Canfor is focused on educating and raising awareness about inclusion and diversity. I'd like to see us continue to increase the visibility and accessibility of these initiatives. Whether you're just starting out or thirty years into your career, your presence speaks a lot at Canfor and it encourages everyone to bring a growth mindset and a positive attitude to work.

I like the complexity of working with a diversity of people in different positions and work environments every day. Canfor is a great place to come to work with fair pay, equal opportunities to advance, and safe practices. It is important to grow our female workforce because everyone has something to offer in the trades. I believe that we should have a more diverse workforce because it leads to a well-rounded mindset. Many believe that trades are all about heavy lifting, - it is hard work, but so much of it is thinking your way through a problem and the satisfaction of completing the job.

I began my journey at Canfor in 1984 and over the years, I have noticed that advanced technology, state-of-the-art machinery, less physically demanding work and most importantly, an inclusive culture has made a career in our mills more accessible. We have a variety of people with different characteristics and qualities working across the company. As a hiring manager, I look for individuals who want to reach milestones and grow in their career like I have, not just people looking for something temporary. We have endless opportunities for individuals who want to support their families but also have a career that makes them proud.

At Canfor, there’s more respect for diversity and there is less tolerance for racism and the workplace culture has moved past this towards change in positive ways. When I was employed at other mills, at times, there were only two to three Indigenous hires and we were racially profiled. At the Prince George Sawmill, there are people from diverse backgrounds, including Indigenous Peoples and I really like that. We’re a large company that is continuously growing, which to me is an indicator of stability and I appreciate this stability for my family.

I started as a forklift operator at the dry kilns, then worked in the log and green yards - now I'm the mill's HR manager and am approaching 15 years with Canfor. We are invested in our people and have expanded our opportunities and training for employees to advance their careers. I'm excited about Canfor’s vigilant commitment to change the culture within the company through Inclusion and Diversity. This culture change across the company has the potential to open opportunities for growth, ideas, technology and collaboration.

I’ve worked in the lumber industry for nearly 20 years now for several different companies. My family and I moved states for me to take this role, which was very intimidating, but Canfor has been incredibly supportive and welcoming throughout the transition. Canfor stood out for me as a large company where you are treated like an individual. We have employees from all walks of life and they each have a place here. They are committed to providing training opportunities for folks at every level of the organization to both refine their skillsets and create promotional opportunities. Canfor’s willingness to take a stand on tough social issues and celebrate inclusion and diversity, rather.

I love working for Canfor. The people in general are amazing. I felt welcomed right from the start and I feel like I can reach out to anyone. In my first week, I attended the Cultural Awareness course and I realized how much Canfor cares and invests in their employees. I’m excited to see Canfor take a huge leap as a leader in inclusion and diversity. With everything going on in the world right now, Canfor has already taken many great steps towards inclusion and diversity in the workplace that put us ahead of many other companies.
