Research Assistant - Market Intelligence (Co-op)

Posting ID:     22327
Position Type:   Temporary
City:   Vancouver, BC, Canada
Location:   Vancouver H/O - Canfor/CWPM_1000 (BC13)

Canfor’s strength comes from the diversity of our skilled and resilient workforce. As our company continues to grow and diversify, so do our career opportunities. Let us take this opportunity to tell you how you could be the best fit for Canfor.

Every year, Canfor hires students in a dedicated Co-op program for our operations to get hands-on experience and training. During a Co-op placement, you will learn why Canfor is a global leader in sustainable lumber, pulp and paper and a North American leader in green energy production. You will gain exposure to different operations of the business, work with a diverse workforce, have the opportunity to network and make valuable connections, and learn more about your potential career. Take that knowledge you learned in the classroom and apply it during your Co-op placement with Canfor!

You’re an analytical self-starter who is inquisitive and resourceful.  You ask the “why” to get a definite answer and you overcome problems with creative solutions. You are more than capable to handle multiple projects and are self-motivated to achieve results. You’re looking for a career where you can  apply, develop and master your analytical and research capabilities.

As the Research Assistant, you will help guide critical business decisions and work closely with sales and operations to shape the strategic plans of Canfor's future. You will play a key role in research activities and will assist in the maintenance and evaluation of a database of key economic indicators as well as the testing/maintenance of forecasting models. Under the direction of the Director, you will maintain a database of market demand and supply data for both lumber and pulp by monitoring key demand areas and analyzing underlying drivers of demand areas. You will also produce and edit presentations and dashboards to communicate insights through the Company.

This is a “tree-markable” opportunity to contribute to the execution of Canfor’s strategy

Ideally, you are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree Co-op program in Business, Economics, Forestry, or Computer Science. For bonus points, you have experience in the lumber & pulp industry and excellent report writing and presentation skills. Experience with Python (programming language) and economic modeling would be a huge asset in this role.

If you’re “pining” for a unique opportunity to conduct independent research for the Global Softwood Lumber and Pulp markets, click that “apply” button today!
