As the Indigenous Relations and Engagement Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in advancing the company’s relationships with First Nations communities as an industry partner for Indigenous peoples. This position requires an experienced Indigenous relations professional with strong connections within Indigenous communities and with Indigenous leaders. This individual will also support the design and implementation of Canfor’s Indigenous engagement initiatives, aiming to build and strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities in and around our Northern Alberta divisions. The role covers Whitecourt, Fox Creek, Grande Prairie and Acheson/Edmonton areas, and the successful candidate may be based in either Whitecourt or Grande Prairie, with frequent travel required.
The life of the Indigenous Relations and Engagement Coordinator includes:
- Strategic Advice and Support: Provide operational and strategic advice to Woodlands staff, management, and executives, working closely with regional peers, senior management, and the Woodlands team to advance Canfor’s Indigenous Engagement Strategy.
- Operational Plan Facilitation: Collaborate with Canfor Woodlands staff to ensure a predictable and timely process for the approval of operational plans and permits, and support planning, permitting, harvesting, and silviculture activities.
- Relationship Development: Assist in developing mutually beneficial protocols, relationships, and forestry agreements with Indigenous groups, while building and advancing relationships with Indigenous communities, regional Indigenous leaders, and key Indigenous political, employment, and advocacy organizations.
- Consistency and Best Practices: Provide overarching support to ensure consistency across other regions in Canfor and facilitate the sharing of information and best practices in building relationships with Indigenous communities.
- Outreach and Partnerships: Support Indigenous outreach efforts in the region and initiate and capitalize on business and employment partnership opportunities.
