The Opportunity:

Canfor is seeking a Communications Co-op to join our dynamic team for an 8-month term. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in content creation, community outreach, and executing a social media strategy, while contributing to a range of communication initiatives.

 

The Role:

As a Communications Co-op, you will work closely with the Manager of Communications to support and execute a variety of strategic initiatives across internal communications, social media, government relations and community outreach. Your role will include coordinating the production of internal communications, social media content, and the development of engaging stories for our internal and external channels. Additionally, you may assist in planning and supporting corporate events, community engagement initiatives, and government relations outreach. The team is focused on driving increased social media engagement through a new strategy, fostering employee engagement through consistent communication and providing strategic outreach to the communities we’re a part of.

  • Writing employee communications and articles for our employee intranet.
  • Supporting the development of our bi-weekly employee e-newsletter and bi-monthly employee calls.
  • Contributing to the execution of our new social media strategy.
  • Assisting with community relations and event coordination.
  • Researching issues and media monitoring.
  • Performing project coordination tasks including maintaining a communications calendar.

The Candidate:

  • Currently Enrolled: You are pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, design, or a related field within a recognized Co-op program.
  • Excellent Writing Skills: Whether you’re crafting messages for internal teams or external audiences, your writing is clear, concise, and engaging. You have the ability to tailor your tone and content to suit various platforms and stakeholders.
  • Organized & Detail-Oriented: You thrive in a fast-paced environment, capable of multitasking and managing multiple deadlines efficiently.
  • Tech-Savvy: You are proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and have basic layout and editing skills.
  • Creative & Adaptable: A natural problem-solver, you are passionate about storytelling and visual design, adapting quickly to new challenges.
  • Approachable: You’re someone people feel comfortable approaching for guidance or support.
  • Having experience with design software such as InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop would be an asset

 

The salary range for this position is: $47,000 - $52,000
