Forestry Field Assistant

Posting ID:     24654
Position Type:   Temporary
City:   Fort St. John, BC

The team in Fort St. John, BC is looking to hire Field Assistants in Silviculture and Field Operations for a 4-month term starting in May 2023. Could one of these opportunities be the perfect fit for you?

You’re an “unbeleafable” team player who excels at listening, speaking, and observing. You welcome the idea of getting a little dirt on your boots and have the ability to perform physically demanding fieldwork. You possess a strong work ethic and consistently operate in a safe and efficient manner.

In a Field Operations role you will be responsible for site level plans and ecosystem data collection. You will be involved in operational cruising, timber stratification and preliminary feature identification using Lidar data and imagery. Additionally, you will assist the team in harvesting operations, log quality and harvesting inspections. You will never be “board” as you road and cut block layouts, perform riparian assessments and prepare field information mapping streams. What “wood” we do without you?

In a Silviculture role your daily responsibilities will include the supervision of planting, vegetation management, and site preparation. You will update key silviculture databases following completion of activities and be involved in the finalization of post-harvest prescriptions and regeneration surveys. Safety is no accident, and you will work to continue your spotless reputation as you ensure compliance with Canfor’s safety, environmental and quality standards.

In these roles, you have a current or past enrollment in Forestry or Natural Resources Management program and/or one season of forestry experience as well as a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

If you are the motivated, problem solving and ambitious type who likes to keep moving, stay challenged, and work with your hands, take a “leaf” of faith and click that “apply” button today! You can apply for the roles that interests you the most at #ind123 #ind124
