As a Financial Accountant at Canfor, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting our operations management team. You’ll collaborate with others, handling key financial transactions and providing valuable statistical analyses. Your expertise in financial analysis will contribute to the preparation of operational, financial, and managerial accounting reports, supporting both strategic and day-to-day decision-making. Reporting to Team Lead, Accounting, you'll also help drive continuous improvements while supporting ongoing operational needs.

This is a developmental role where you will manage your own responsibilities and provide backup for essential financial tasks. You’ll have the opportunity to work from one of our Alberta offices, including Grande Prairie, Whitecourt, or Spruceland, and support our Alberta operations with occasional travel.

 

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Supporting Alberta woodlands and divisional accountants.
  • Handling central timber dues payments, manual invoicing, and contractor pay reviews.
  • Reconciliation of log sales and timber dues accruals.
  • Posting journal entries and reviewing ledgers for a timely and accurate month-end close.
  • Performing general ledger account reconciliations and preparing financial reports.
  • Ensuring compliance with corporate policies and IFRS.
  • Support on reporting of weekly key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Providing coverage for peers during peak periods or as needed.

What We’re Looking For:

  • In pursuit of CPA designation is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen business sense.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, self-motivated, and a proactive problem-solver.
  • A minimum of three years of progressive experience in an accounting or financial analyst role, ideally within the forest products industry or a related operations/manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
  • Experience with ERP systems or other accounting software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
