Sr. Accountant - 18 Month Contract

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Accounting & Reporting, the Senior Financial Accountant is a part of the Corporate Accounting team responsible for accounting, forecasting and reporting functions for Canfor’s corporate and technology shared services. In this role, you will focus on providing Canfor’s recently formed joint venture Arbios Biotech with financial support.  In addition, the role will also provide basic system support and maintain data cleanliness within Canfor’s ERP platform.


This role requires a curious mindset to discover new ways to enhance financial and treasury processes by leveraging the ERP platform and reporting tools through the collaboration with Arbios stakeholders and various other Canfor functional teams.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing financial and project accounting support to Arbios Biotech and various Canfor business partners including preparation of monthly reports, quarterly forecasts and ad-hoc requests
  • Support Treasury team in basic banking functionalities including wire releases and other related accounting related tasks including tracking intercompany loans and bank reconciliations
  • Liaise with AP, AR, Fixed Assets specialists to maintain Canfor’s corporate and technology’s subledgers
  • Coordinate with Canfor’s operational finance leaders to provide centralized accounting support including insurance, property tax, pensions and intercompany transactions
  • Support Corporate Reporting team in maintaining ERP system functionalities including maintenance of GL Chart of Accounts and integration between ERP and other source systems
  • Support Director of Taxation in GST, PST and other tax filings


The Candidate:

Education & Experience

  • Accounting designation (CPA) and related business courses;
  • 3-5 years of experience in a financial accountant role, preferably within the forest products industry or a related operations / manufacturing environment;
  • Experience working with ERP systems; experience with JDE and other oracle systems is an asset
  • Experience working with medium to large sized companies;

  • Ability to multi-task and drive multiple initiatives forward;
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;
  • Advanced computer, MS Excel and other MS Office application skills
  • Detail oriented, analytical, highly motivated, a self-starter;
  • Ability to utilize tools and systems to find, extract and analyze required data;
  • Ability to adapt to changes in current policies and processes due to new guidelines
