The Opportunity:

The Senior Analyst, Cyber Security supports the Senior Manager of Cyber Security by providing professional and technical advice, expertise and guidance in the areas of prevention, detection, response, and recovery.  This role is a core resource for the successful management of the Cyber Security strategy, policy, architecture and standards, and ensures that accountabilities across the company are in place and employees are educated to follow and apply these standards.  This role’s operational components include; monitoring the prevailing threat landscape, network and computing activity at our sites, and taking investigative and redial actions required to maintain appropriate security levels.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Security Oversight

  • Champion cyber security activities by promoting, sharing, and encouraging proper security practices, risk reduction, and data diligence.
  • Ensure important initiatives are evaluated against effective risk management techniques
  • Provide assistance developing and maintaining security policies, standards and procedures
  • Provide senior IT with regular updates on risk, issues, and initiatives.

 

Security Technology

  • Lead effective use of available security and IT tools to facilitate the safeguarding of Canfor business services and data.
  • Assist with proactively monitoring against threats, managing vulnerabilities, reducing Canfor’s attack surface, detecting attacks and breaches, and responding to incidents.
  • Apply technology effectively to assist with securing networks, infrastructure, business systems and end points.
  • Familiarize with existing tools and technology both within Canfor and the security community to provide guidance into toolset selection processes.

 

Security Processes

  • Assess and analyze threats, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend appropriate action by IT and suppliers to reduce relevant risks.
  • Enable the timely discovery of potentially threatening cyber security events and respond appropriately to mitigate the risk.
  • Assist with evaluation and management of risks with information assets, third parties, and applications.
  • Assist with development and provision of relevant security metrics to show trending and effectiveness of controls versus threats and incidents.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments of key areas of infrastructure to ensure risks to those areas are measured and remediated.
  • Maintain the cyber security awareness program with customized communication tools and campaigns for each business unit.
  • Be a key member of the incident response team.

 

 

The Candidate:

Education          

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related discipline. Or equivalent work experience with appropriate technology diploma.
  • CISSP or SANS certification is desirable

 

Experience         

  • Over 10 years of IT work experience with a broad range of exposure to most key aspects of enterprise technology solutions.
  • Over 5 years of professional experience working in an information security role, analyzing and applying information security, risk management, and privacy practices.
  • Experience working on large projects.
  • Broad experience in evaluating, implementing and operating major security infrastructure, and technologies for networks, endpoints, databases, systems, applications, and data including architectures and processes in several of:  security analytics, threat intelligence, vulnerability management, intrusion prevention and detection, antimalware, security information event management, identity and access management, encryption, system hardening and protection, network segmentation, next generation firewalls, VPN, strong authentication, and encryption.
  • Experience in defining security requirements for cloud based systems.
  • Experience managing service providers and contractors to deliver critical services and performing key functions.
