The Opportunity

The Canfor finance team is looking for an energetic, well rounded individual with excellent technical and people skills, wanting to progress their careers and thrive in a high-performing team environment with one of the largest companies in British Columbia.


The Financial Accountant will be responsible for overseeing a wide range of accounting transactions (banking, payroll, general ledger) and administrative functions for the Canfor and Canfor Pulp Head Office and Corporate Selling and Administration. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Corporate Analyst, as well as the Canfor Financial Accountants. This position will also engage with other Corporate departments as well as Canfor and Canfor Pulp personnel located in Prince George. This position requires the individual to be a self-starter and have well-established organizational skills, attention to detail, a high level of motivation and energy, excellent communication and a preference for working in a team environment.


Main Responsibilities

  • Preparation and processing of standard corporate journal entries and posting of multi-divisional journal entries from operations.
  • Preparation and review of financial statements and support, including balance sheet account reconciliations for Canfor Pulp and Corporate departments and subsidiaries.    
  • Preparation of quarterly forecasts and audit files.
  • Provide the corporate finance team with relevant financial and statistical analysis and information.
  • Play a lead role in the integration and optimization of Canfor and Canfor Pulp Head Office and Corporate Selling and Administration departments’ reporting analyses, with a view to standardizing, streamlining and simplifying reporting, and enhancing the financial information made available to various business units and stakeholders.
  • Assistance in maintaining corporate accounting policies and ensure compliance with policies and IFRS. 
  • Back up and support to other positions within the department.
  • Assist Senior Corporate Analyst as required.


Required Skills

The successful candidate will bring the following experience and expertise:

  • Qualified Accountant (CPA, CA, CMA or CGA) with a strong understanding of IFRS and Public Company reporting requirements.
  • 2+ years of post designation related experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Detail oriented, analytical, highly motivated, and a self-starter.
  • Advanced computer and MS Excel and other MS Office application skills.
  • Experience with Oracle Financial Systems an asset.
