The Opportunity:
Canfor is currently looking for an experienced individual with proven leadership abilities to join our team as a Director, Corporate Human Resources.

The Role:

Reporting to the Vice President, People, the Director, Corporate Human Resources directly supports Canfor’s corporate Executives and their global leadership teams (including Sales and Marketing, Finance, IT, HR and others). The Director will be responsible for adding significant value to the business through broad spectrum HR leadership, knowledge and demonstrating a high level of functional expertise and business acumen. This is an exciting opportunity to play an integral part in the continued success of Canfor with over 6,000 employees globally.

As the strategic business partner, you will have the opportunity to work side by side with our business leadership, you will focus on proactive talent management for your business partners, coaching and developing the internal employee base, providing guidance on employee relations and executing strategic HR initiatives. Always looking ahead, the Director will be looking for new ways to implement change initiatives, challenge the status quo and collaborate with business leaders and Human Resources.

This role will also hold a key responsibility for HR governance across the organization.  As the lead resource managing HR policies and providing support for the HR strategy, the Director, Corporate HR will significantly influence the overall direction of the HR function. This is a fantastic opportunity to join and influence a growing global organization based in Vancouver.

Key Responsibilities

In this exciting opportunity, you will be a part a dynamic HR team with a clear mandate to deliver a leading people strategy to attract and develop talent, lead and drive change and build trust and engagement across the organization.

Strategic Business Partner

  • Partners with business clients to ensure superior execution of business outcomes through timely delivery of HR services and support
  • Acts as a strategic advisor to management providing expertise in organizational design, change management, employee relations, employee motivation and engagement in support of business transformation efforts.
  • Lead business unit Talent Management efforts in support of building Canfor’s talent bench strength and development of leaders at all levels in the organization.
  • Ensures that Human Resources needs are met in a timely manner at all times; Responsible for providing the highest level of customer service and accessibility of HR to management and employees.

HR Governance

  • Manage and develop global HR policies that align the business on people practices and ensure compliance with regulatory expectations
  • Work with HR Business Partners in the operating groups to identify areas of concern and develop policies and approaches to address gaps and drive improved business results
  • Leverage deep business acumen to support the evolution of the people strategy, ensuring business needs and priorities remain at the core of HR programs and services.
  • Manage and report on progress against the HR strategy and HR operational plan
  • Report on people related KPIs and interpret key business data to inform the HR strategy
  • Support M&A related due diligence activities

The Candidate:

  • Must be located (or willing to relocate to) Vancouver, BC
  • BS/BA in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related field
  • MBA is preferred
  • Minimum 7+ year's related experience in Human Capital/Human Resource Management
  • Demonstrated record of accomplishments in leading people, developing strategic plans, managing projects, and developing HR initiatives
  • Strong experience in performance, talent assessment and succession planning are essential.
  • Strong employee relations experience
  • Experience in Change Management preferred
  • Experience supporting a Technology function preferred
  • Experience with M&A would be advantageous
  • Proficiency in accessing HRIS systems, preferably SAP Success Factors, for viewing and analyzing employee data
  • Solid understanding of performance measurement and experience in a metrics driven environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability to strike appropriate balance between company, customer, and employee needs strong problem solving, collaboration, coaching, influencing, and facilitation skills
  • Ability to successfully navigate through conflict while ensuring effective relationships remain intact
  • Ability to analyze data, synthesize and provide recommendations
  • Advanced excel and powerpoint skills
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and US employment law
  • Demonstrated ability to produce results in a high volume, fast paced environment preferably in a large public company
