As Canfor's Director of Communications, you are the senior communications leader responsible for developing and executing North America-wide integrated strategic communications that strengthen the company’s reputation, align communications to business priorities, and support company objectives.
Based in Vancouver, and reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Affairs, you will serve as a strategic advisor to senior leaders, a trusted communications counselor, and a strong people leader driving high standards of execution, consistency, and impact across channels.
You are a strategic thinker, exceptional communicator, and operational leader who thrives in a complex, regulated environment. You bring sound judgment, strong writing, and editorial excellence, and ability to identify and assess issues and develop communications response plans. You are equally comfortable shaping strategy and rolling up your sleeves to deliver high-quality communications.
This role has primary accountability for corporate communications, issues management, media relations, and content strategy. The Director will manage teams responsible for internal communications and community investment, and will provide prioritization, planning and coaching across the broader communications function.
What you will do:
- Implement strategies to enhance and protect the corporate brand and reputation through external communications, media relations, issues management, and community relations.
- Monitor public, media, and emerging issues and public opinion trends; partner with leaders across the organization to develop response strategies and provide regular updates and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Crisis communications management and issues response.
- Lead Canfor’s media relations activities by providing strategic counsel on media strategy, identifying proactive opportunities, preparing leaders for engagement, and acting as a company spokesperson when required.
- Lead or support sustainability messaging and materials in alignment with corporate strategy and disclosure requirements.
- Developing overarching communications workplans inclusive of employee communications community investment and enterprise priorities.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a collaborative team of communications professionals, including capability development and resource planning.
Education & Experience
- University degree in communications, political science, business, economics, public policy, or a related field.
- A minimum of 10 years with progressive and diverse experience in all facets of communications, corporate affairs, community relations, government affairs, or public policy
- Proven experience providing strategic counsel to senior executives, and ability to influence and persuade externally and across all levels of the organization.
- Experience in the forest products, natural resources, manufacturing, or industrial sectors considered an asset.
- Experience with sustainability reporting, ESG communications, and community investment considered an asset.

The salary range for this position is: $140,000 - $180,000
