We are hiring a combined Data Scientist role to support our Enterprise Analytics and Market Intelligence team with level and scope aligned to the successful candidate’s experience. This role focuses on turning complex business questions into practical, data driven solutions that deliver measurable business value.
As a Data Scientist on the Enterprise Analytics and Market Intelligence team, you will work closely with teams across the company to explore data, automate and improve business processes, and conduct analysis that informs Canfor’s strategic direction. You will develop, evaluate, and put models into production across a wide range of use cases, including time series forecasting, linear optimization, maintenance scheduling, and other high impact business applications.
A day in the life of a Data Scientist, Enterprise Analytics may include:
- Evaluation and prioritization of project proposals
- Collaborating with business partners and development of project objectives
- Exploratory data analysis of internal datasets and survey of external or public data
- Feature selection and engineering
- Model selection, development, and evaluation
- Model interpretation and review with domain experts
- Interfacing with Solution Developers and Data Engineers for productionization, data visualization, and ongoing support
For this role, you'll come equipped with:
- A degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Science (Exceptional co-op candidates in their final year of study will be considered)
- Strong proficiency in Python programming, including the writing of maintainable production code, the use of version control systems, and familiarity with data analysis and machine learning libraries
- Experience with time series forecasting, optimization, neural networks, and classical machine learning models
- Familiarity with Azure and Microsoft Fabric is a significant asset
- Knowledge of economics, commodity markets, or the forestry industry is an asset
The salary range for this position is: $88,500 -$129,000
