The Opportunity

The Accountant will be responsible for a wide range of accounting transactions (banking, payroll, general ledger) and administrative functions for the Canfor and Canfor Pulp Head Office and Corporate Selling and Administration groups.


Key Responsibilities


  • Preparation and processing of standard Corporate journal entries and posting of multi-divisional journal entries from operations and various Head Office departments, including code corrections, review of iExpenses, summary billings, accruals, etc.
  • Preparation and review of financial statements and support, including variance analyses  and balance sheet account reconciliations for Canfor Pulp and CFP Corporate departments and subsidiaries


    Accounts Receivable/Payable

  • Enter/Reconcile Accounts Receivable receipts in Oracle
  • Review invoices – coding, amounts, vendor info, etc.
  • A/P inquiries
  • Issue cheques (Canfor Corp)


    Chart of Accounts Maintenance

  • Ownership and maintenance of chart of accounts
  • Create new accounts
  • Correct coding errors



  • Preparation and analysis of quarterly forecasts



  • Provide the Corporate Finance team and certain Corporate Head Office divisions with relevant financial and statistical analysis and information
  • Identify relevant trends and raise appropriately with stakeholders



  • Liaison with Corporate department managers, working collaboratively on forecast as well as various ad-hoc initiatives
  • Maintenance of files on banking transactions and preparation of bank reconciliations
  • Preparation of audit files for certain Corporate Head Office divisions
  • Fixed asset accounting
  • Preparation of tax filings
  • Play a role in standardizing, streamlining, and simplifying reporting, account recs, etc., and enhancing the financial information made available to various business units and stakeholders
  • Records management
  • Assistance in maintaining Corporate Accounting policies and ensure compliance with policies and IFRS


Required Skills

  • Minimum CPA PEP program or equivalent, with a commitment to completing the CPA designation
  • One to two years related experience
  • Experience with Oracle Financial Systems an asset
  • Advanced computer and MS Excel and other MS Office application skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Detail oriented, analytical, highly motivated, and a self-starter
  • Participates in the month-end close process and executes tasks in a timely manner and is accountable for accuracy and reliability
  • Strong understanding of internal Finance policies and procedures
  • Ability to apply the appropriate tools and systems to find, extract and analyze required data
