Procurement Forester

The Procurement Forester is responsible for log/timber procurement for the sawmill. The ideal Procurement Forester is willing and able to build the relationships with landowners, loggers, and timber dealers necessary to procure a consistent supply of high-quality logs for the mill. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• A commitment to safety at all times
• Procure logs that fit the size and quality requirements of the sawmill
• Effective team player with procurement staff and sawmill management
• Maintain and build on long term supplier relationships
• Use knowledge of the area fiber resource to make beneficial log procurement decisions
• Maintain an ideal log cost as markets allow
• Keen attention to log quality to include spread load evaluation and reporting
• When relevant, work with logging contractors to ensure successful operations
• Thorough familiarity with all wood buying facilities within procurement region
• Forecast volume, cost, and size for log deliveries to sawmill
• Communicate regularly and consistently with scale house personnel

IDEAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum 1-2 years of experience in fiber procurement
• Practical knowledge of log/timber procurement through a supplier network and stumpage purchase
• Knowledge of local area and contractors considered an asset 
• Associates or Bachelors Degree degree in a relevant field considered an asset
