Reporting to the Safety Coordinator this position will work with the Construction and Project Managers to establish the site safety prrogram and will provide continuing support as an expert resource for the duration of the project. Responsibilities shall include:

  • Conduct pre-site inspections and hazard assessments with Contractors and Mill crews prior to start of construction or demolition activities
  • Assist Construction Manager with pre-screening of contractor bid lists based upon safety performance auditing over the past 5 years. Create and maintain a database of safety statistics for the group of contractors being used on the project
  • Reviewing and commenting on the "fit-for-purpose" of Contractors safety manuals before they mobilize to site
  • Coordinating contractor site indoctrinations prior to start of work
  • Conducting site safety inspections and reporting of daily construction activities regards to safety
  • Establishing a site auditing protocol which involves everyone across the site and monitoring the quality and frequency of audits for effectiveness
  • Handling all communication with Work Safe BC and being the site contact on the Notice of Project submitted by the Construction Manager
  • Authoring and publishing a Project Work Safety Bulletin on a regular bases to maintain focus on safety for the duration of the Construction
  • Creating daily, weekly and monthly safety topics for use at site by the contract safety reps in conjuction with their own internal safe work programs
  • Providing expert advice to contractor superviosr personnel and project field stadd on issues as they arise
  • Creating a presence on site through participation at tool box talks, tailgate meetings and safety meetings
  • Staying current through liaison with the Construction Manager to be able to foresee the next stage of construction and determine if there are new or unfamiliar hazards which require attention
  • Working with the Project Manager in the event there is a serious safety concern or deficiency with project personnel or contractors on site
