The Opportunity
Canfor Pulp Ltd. is currently seeking Summer Students to join our team at our Taylor Pulp Mill. We are looking for candidates who are interested in a growth opportunity in an industrial environment who will train in various areas of the mill site. This position involves manual labour and possible exposure to dusts and/or chemicals.

Candidates must be full time students and enrolled in Post-Secondary Institution for September 2018 to be considered for the position.

Applications submitted will be considered for employment at our Taylor Pulp Mill operation which is located 15km outside of Fort St. John, BC.


Students hired for summer employment will be expected to work in a heavy industrial environment and will be utilized in relievable positions.

The summer work term is from May 1, 2018 to August 31, 2018. Successful candidates will be expected to commit to these dates. If a student wishes to finish their work term earlier, they must provide Human Resources with written permission from their Supervisor at least two (2) weeks prior to their last day of work. Students will be required to have a face-to-face Performance Review with their Supervisor prior to the end of the work term.


Students must be attending an educational institution full time student during the 2018 - 2019 academic year.

  • Full time means 3 or more courses for each semester
  • Students must be in a program of two or more year’s duration, which leads to a recognized degree or diploma.
  • Students must be committed to continuing full-time education in the September to December 2018 and January to May 2019 semesters.
  1. Data Registration Forms (or equivalent) confirming your attendance during the Fall 2018 and Winter 2019 semesters MUST accompany your application, for consideration of employment. If hired, a document confirming your registration for the Fall 2018 semester MUST be received in the Human Resources office no later than July 10, 2018, to ensure your continued Summer 2018 employment.
  2. If it is determined during the summer work term that a summer student is not returning to school for the 2018 - 2019 term, that student will be terminated from the program immediately and will not qualify for any employment with Canfor’s pulp mills for one year. Should he/she attend an accredited university, college or technical school as a full time student in the future, he/she will re-qualify for summer employment.
  3. Employment consideration will be given to:
    • Returning Students (four summer maximum based on acceptable performance record)
    • University, Technical and Vocational Students
    • High School Students (Grade 12 completion)
    • Students in a program of two or more year’s duration, which leads to a recognized degree or diploma.
    • Labour experience will be considered a strong asset.
  4. If you are enrolled in a Co-op Program, you will not be eligible for summer employment until all other students have been placed.
  5. A summer student’s eligibility for rehire will be based on an acceptable work and attendance record with the Company.
  6. Intentional abuse of these criteria could result in a student being terminated and becoming permanently ineligible for the program.
  7. The Company retains the right to hire the best-qualified candidates.

  • Those individuals employed in the annual turnarounds or Co-Op programs are not eligible for employment with the summer student program.
