The Opportunity

Canfor Pulp Ltd. is currently seeking Summer Students to join our team for the 2018 Summer Term. We are looking for candidates who are interested in a growth opportunity in a production environment who will train in various areas of the mill site. This position involves manual labour and possible exposure to dusts and/or chemicals. Candidates must be full time students and enrolled in a Post-Secondary Institution for September 2018 to be considered for this position.

 

The Candidate

  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Available to work shiftwork
  • Completion of Grade 12/GED
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot
  • Positive attitude and a self starter
  • Able to work in an environment that may include exposure to weather, dust, chemicals, moving mechanical parts, and noise
  • Preference will be given to individuals with industrial work experience

General Information
Students hired for summer employment will be expected to work in a heavy industrial environment and will be utilized in relief positions. The summer work term is from May 22nd, 2017 to Aug 30th, 2017. Successful candidates will be expected to commit to these dates.

 

If a summer student does not perform at an acceptable level during his/her probationary period (90 days from date of hire), he or she may be subject to termination.

 

Students will be required to have a face-to-face Performance Review with their Supervisor prior to the end of the work term.

 

Requirements

  1. Students must be attending an educational institution full time during the
    • 2018-2019 academic year. Full time means 3 or more courses for each semester.
    • Students must be enrolled in a program of two or more years duration; which leads to a recognized degree or diploma
  2. Students must be committed to continuing full-time education in the September 2018 and January to May 2019 semesters. You will be asked for proof by letter of enrolment from the Registrar's Office. This letter MUST accompany your application to be considered for this position
    • If you are hired, a document confirming your registration for the Fall 2018 semester MUST be received in the Human Resources office no later than July 9th, 2018, to ensure your continued Summer 2018 employment.
    • If it is determined during the summer work term that a summer student is not returning to school for the 2018-2019 term, that student will be terminated from the program immediately and will not qualify for an employment with Canfor's pulp mills for one year. Should he or she attend an accredited university, college, or technical school as a full time student, he or she will re-qualify for summer employment
  3. A summer student's rehire is based on an acceptable work and attendance record with the Company


Note: Those employed in the annual turnarounds or Co-Op programs are not eligible for employment with the summer student program.
