The Opportunity:
Canfor is currently looking for a strong leader with a background in industrial maintenance to join our team as a Reliability Team Leader.

The Role:
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position is responsible for guiding efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls and safety/security systems.

In this challenging position, you will identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect the plant or business operations. This broad role includes loss elimination, risk management and life cycle asset management. Working closely with project engineering to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations, the Team Leader is also responsible for:

  • Adhering to the life cycle asset management (LCAM) process throughout the entire life cycle of new assets
  • Participating in development of design and installation specifications and commissioning plans
  • Developing acceptance tests and inspection criteria
  • Participating in final check-out of new installations, including factory and site acceptance testing that assure adherence to functional specifications
  • Developing of criteria for and evaluation of equipment and technical MRO suppliers and technical maintenance service providers

The incumbent will be required to build, direct and train a team of Technicians to:

  • Devise and provide value-added preventative maintenance tasks and/or procedures
  • Effectively utilize predictive and other non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems
  • Provide input to risk management plan that will anticipate reliability related on non-reliability related risks that could adversely impact plant operations
  • Develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations. These problems include performance, longevity, capacity, quality, cost or regulatory compliance issues

To fulfill these responsibilities the Team Leader, Reliability will use systems that may include the following data analysis techniques:

  • Statistical process control
  • Reliability modeling and prediction
  • Fault tree analysis
  • Weibull analysis
  • Six Sigma methodology
  • Root cause analysis (RCA) and root cause failure analysis (RCFA)
  • Failure reporting, analysis and corrective action system

The Team Leader will be required to work closely with Production and other departments to perform analysis of assets including:

  • Asset utilization
  • Equipment effectiveness
  • Remaining useful life
  • Other parameters that define operating condition, reliability and costs of assets
  • Providing technical support
  • Applying value analysis to repair/replace, repair/design and make/buy decisions

The Candidate

Will possess a Degree or Technologist Diploma in one of the following:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Reliability Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Instrumentation (Electronics) Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering

You will also have:

  • Minimum of 3 years process industry experience required
  • Strong mechanical, metallurgical and electrical knowledge and aptitude
  • Advanced computer skills, with emphasis on condition monitoring software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of Defect Elimination (DE) systems such as Kepner Tregoe or Kaizan
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance practices, programs and the tools associated with failure detection (e.g. vibration analysis, oil monitoring, thermography) as well as the software associated with them

The following would be considered an asset in this position:

  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Work experience in the Pulp or similar process related industry
  • CMRP and PMP designations
