The Opportunity:
Canfor Pulp is seeking a talented and enthusiastic university graduate to undertake a paid internship in the field of their choice.

The Role:
The program provides the intern with the opportunity to explore the exciting opportunities that exist in our operations and will help the intern develop their career path. Graduates will gain an understanding of CPPI’s business and values, develop excellent decision-making skills, critical thinking skills and create a realistic development plan.

Each intern will:

  • Be mentored by a professional in a leadership position at CPLP

The successful candidate will work on site at the mill location primarily under the direction of a Process Engineer or Process Specialist.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Process testing crosschecks, these include: Boiler Feed water, Influent, Effluent, Liquor, Hog, lime and mud quality, etc.
  • Process performance monitoring, this includes a series of sampling and testing of non-routine locations for the purpose of evaluating efficiency or performance issues. i.e. Feed water testing, Lime and lime mud testing, Influent & effluent testing, Liquor testing, etc
  • Calibration of new process testing equipment. Auto titrators for liquor quality.  Sampling the hog belts. Sending out samples and coordinating with Canfor Pulp Innovations.
  • Helping with various sample collection and analysis as required.
  • Helping with data collection and analysis as required
  • Creating and maintaining process explorer graphics and calculations.

Upcoming and ongoing projects that the intern will be involved in:

  • Process safety management initiatives
  • Determine source of soda contamination in lime mud and mitigate its impact
  • Kiln optimization work
  • Ongoing testing crosschecks
  • Other projects and inovations

The Candidate:

  • Forward thinking, flexible and resourceful, you can apply your technical insight and analytical abilities to develop novel solutions.
  • You are a graduate of a Chemical or Process Engineering Degree program within the last two years and are a member of, or eligible to register with, APEGBC at least as an Engineer in Training (EIT).
  • Your personal attributes include well developed interpersonal and communication skills, a creative yet pragmatic approach to problem solving and the ability to work in teams.
