Position Summary:

 

The Operations Systems Lead will strategize, define and lead work in collaboration with Pulp Mill Operations, IT and other supporting teams to improve the way we capture, store and work with information in our manufacturing / operations systems, providing early insight into issues, maximizing production and minimizing process and equipment failures.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

The Operations Systems Lead will be responsible for developing operational information strategy, advising Operations and supporting teams on improving data management and access to information by:

 

  • Partnering with Pulp Operations and other stakeholders ensuring ongoing sustainability of solutions and establishing forward-looking roadmaps in the Manufacturing Systems digital ecosystem
  • Providing visibility, through modern technical tools, into manufacturing performance including run conditions, quality, up-time, cost; and missed controls in early stages, avoiding costly operational downtime, minimizing process and equipment failure, and maximizing production; and supporting mill optimization
  • Leading the development and standardization of technical views, trends, dashboards and real-time process displays, in the data historian or other tools, with visibility to important information
  • Optimizing data collection processes and removing data islands
  • Planning and engineering of information solutions, across multiple platforms
  • Leading data historian / operations systems sustainment support and strengthening the support model
  • Improving the users experience through coaching and training
  • Developing strong relationships with technology ecosystem partners (Aspen Technology and others)
  • May develop into a people leadership role
     

The Candidate:

 

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering
  • Process Engineering with DCS/ PLC programming background

 

Experience

  • Thought leader in operational date capture and presentation
  • Data historian operation and support
  • 3 to 5 years Pulp Manufacturing
  • Strong interest and abilities working with data and analytics technologies
  • Project management and business process analysis
     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and team building skills
  • Well-developed verbal, written, and oral presentation and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility to respond to continually changing internal and external business conditions
