Accountant, Operations - Pulp

The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager of Finance Shared Services Pulp Operations, the Operations Accountant is a key member of both the Pulp Finance and Mill Management teams and is responsible for central accounting functions and a full range of operational, financial and management accounting reporting and analysis related to pulp and paper operational activities. 


The Role:
The Operations Accountant's primary focus is to provide the management and financial teams with relevant and timely financial information, analysis, and value-added decision support for operational activities that include pulp production, chemical usage and materials used in pulp and paper processing. 

  • Responsible for the integrity of pulp and paper production reporting
  • Prepare month end journal entries and tasks
  • Prepare and review departmental and other reports
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, corporate policies and IFRS
  • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly forecasts
  • Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable invoices and related activities
  • Identify and implement both system improvements and process efficiencies
  • Support other members of the financial team when required
  • Other duties as assigned


The Candidate:

  • Preference will be given to senior level accounting students with a commitment towards completing their CPA designation
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Advanced personal computer skills (MS Office)
  • A thorough understanding of computer-based accounting systems
  • Self-motivation and ability to undertake new challenges
  • Strong work ethic
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
