Mechanical Engineer

As the Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical support to the maintenance and production departments during daily operations, area shutdowns, and turnarounds. You’ll be part of an experienced team, analyzing and implementing opportunities for improving safety, productivity, product quality, and profitability. You will manage all facets of new construction including major maintenance and capital projects while evaluating equipment problems and failures to determine the "root cause". This role has many moving parts, both literally and figuratively. You are comfortable with conflict and will use these skills to navigate while you work with power and recovery, power engineering, and multiple stakeholders.

Ideally, you are already equipped with a Mechanical Engineering degree, are either a member of, or eligible to register with EGBC and have or are working towards your P.Eng. Your experience working on power boilers and turbines will really “fine-tune” your resume. Pulp experience is helpful, but not required.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analysis and implementation of opportunities for improving safety, productivity, quality and profitability.
  • The incumbent will evaluate equipment problems and failures to determine "root cause" with the goal of eliminating future failures by implementing long term corrective measures. These measures include equipment modifications and repairs, preventative maintenance measures, training and standards reviews.
  • Provide expertise and suport for capital porjects 
  • Overall ownership of the reliability of fixed assets for availability to operations, compliance to regulatory requirements and risk reduction for safe operation
  • Regulatory Compliance & Integrity Program Management - responsible for developing and maintaining the integrity program for fixed assets to meet or exceed standards. 
  • RBI & Asset Data Review/Analysis - analyse the history and design of assets, a valuable predictor for future performance. Develop plans that meets regulatory, safety, and operational needs. 
  • Use RBI/RCM systems to reduce risk, ensure quality and accuracy, and support asset maintenance to meet regulatory standards
