Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Manager, Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning is responsible for designing, developing, communicating and executing a global talent acquisition strategy and work plans in alignment with Canfor’s corporate strategy. This position leads and supports the Talent Acquisition function within Canada as well as supports integration of recruitment activities for Canfor US operations. The role is accountable for supporting the highest quality talent acquisition for Canfor and building a long-term high potential talent pipeline to feed future growth projections for all areas of the business. Responsible for the management of a high performing recruitment team in Prince George and Vancouver, this individual will support and contribute to the overall HR strategy, perform full-cycle recruiting when required, maintain excellent relations with hiring managers, 3rd party recruiters, current and future candidates, and the community at large for roles within the organization at all levels.

 

The Manager, Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning is accountable for talent delivery, prioritization and results and manages relationships and expectations of Canfor and external stakeholders. The role oversees internal workforce data and external trend analysis to identify gaps and recommend solutions. The incumbent is a strategic human resources leader, ensuring all talent acquisition and workforce planning programs and strategies are competitive, sustainable, and have an impact on the long and short term workforce needs of the organization.

 

In addition, this position will be responsible for strengthening and promoting Canfor’s employment brand, developing recruiting and interviewing skills in our managers, talent mining and growing a world class social network of professionals. The Role:

Consultation, Strategy and Planning

 

  • Design, develop, communicate, and implement an integrated Talent Acquisition vision, strategy, and execution plan (internal and external) in alignment with Canfor’s corporate strategy.
  • Produces systematic performance indicator reporting to inform Senior HR and executive team as to progress, roadblocks, and other relevant performance details.
  • Accountable for delivery of talent in partnership with operations and partners; responsible for leading execution of domestic talent delivery
  • Manages yearly recruitment-related contracts and budgets; benchmarks best practices to suggest enhancements or changes that leverage exposure and engagement while controlling costs; Introduces new opportunities to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Partners with Corporate Communications to help drive a strong employment brand, and incorporate into recruiting processes; develops branding and outreach strategy.
  • Consultative partnership with HR and Business Leaders in identification and prioritization of current and future pivotal/core talent needs, and the deployment of global recruiting plans; close partnership with Finance to forecast headcount movement to support forecasting and budgeting process
  • Support a diverse and inclusive culture and workforce, and ensure compliance with laws, regulations and company policies
  • Supports internal career mobility through regular communications with business leaders to identify opportunities to fill talent goals; Partners with leadership team and HR Business Partners to identify appropriate steps for internal moves including programs for succession planning, development planning, etc.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining talent market expertise including a comprehensive view of industry trends and competitors; provide expertise in market insights, talent landscape, telling the Canfor story, and an understanding of talent needs
  • Applies subject matter expertise in internal and external workforce trends to evaluate workforce plans, identify gaps and propose solutions to HR and hiring managers
  • Analyzes external industry and labour market trends, competitive threats, and expansion opportunities to integrate into planning
  • Oversees talent acquisition/workforce data collection, providing analyses and interpretation/evaluation of workforce metrics

 

Management, Coaching and Support

 

  • Leads, coaches and manages the Talent Acquisition team, ensuring clear goals and accountabilities are established and achieved; Ensures individuals' performance and development needs are met and employees are high performing and engaged; Manage workload allocation and performance measures.
  • Manages relationships with hiring managers, determining and implementing global recruitment strategies, facilitates the recruitment process, assists team with extending and negotiating offers according to Canfor guidelines and best practices.
  • Maintains and ensures all open requisitions, records, employment processes and all pertinent applicant and interview data are in full legal compliance with all applicable collective agreements, laws and regulations.
  • Supports various HR related projects on an ad hoc basis, as required.
  • Manage senior/executive level staffing requisitions and conducts full-cycle recruitment when required.
  • Conducts client engagement meetings with operations and departments and maintains strong relationships across the business.
  • Develops and maintains a network of outside contacts including recruiters, agencies, professional organizations, competitors and educational institutes

 

 

The Candidate:

  • Post-Secondary education in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related discipline or combination of employment experience and education
  • At least 7 years’ experience in HR with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in management, talent acquisition, strategic workforce planning or workforce analytics; strategy and planning desirable
  • A Chartered Professional in Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or a Registered Professional Recruiter (RPR) designation would be considered an asset.
  • Strong people leadership and capability in building and leading high-performing teams
  • Solid understanding and knowledge of Talent Acquisition best practices and strategic workforce planning
  • Sound knowledge of performance management and continuous improvement processes
  • Solid understanding and knowledge of process optimization
  • Strong customer focus to serve the needs of the business, the Hiring Managers and the candidates
  • An effective communicator, with strong verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Strong business knowledge and understanding of the forestry, wood/pulp products industry is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem solving and team building skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience with human capital reporting and metrics
  • Exceptional project management skills including the ability to develop strategic plans and successfully implement
