The Opportunity:


Reporting to the Director, People Services and Talent Acquisition, the Manager, Talent Acquisition is responsible for designing, developing, communicating and executing a global talent acquisition strategy. This position leads and supports the talent acquisition function within Canada and supports integration of select recruitment activities for Canfor US operations.

The ideal candidate is someone who has a demonstrated background in process improvement, a deep understanding of automation and human capital technology and systems, can lead and support a team of talent acquisition professionals and provide business focus and customer service to diverse set of key stakeholders.

The role is accountable for building a diverse talent pipeline to support operational needs and future growth projections for all areas of the business. Responsible for the development and management a talent acquisition team in Prince George and Vancouver, this individual will support and contribute to the overall HR strategy, perform some full-cycle recruiting, foster and sustain excellent relations with hiring managers, 3rd party recruiters, employment candidates, and the communities at large for roles within the organization at all levels.


This position is a strategic human resources leader, ensuring all talent acquisition programs and strategies are competitive, sustainable, and have an impact on the long and short term workforce needs of the organization.

In addition, this position will be responsible for strengthening and promoting Canfor’s employment brand, developing recruiting and interviewing skills in our managers, talent mining and growing a world class social network of professionals. The Role:


Consultation, Strategy and Planning

  • Design, develop, communicate, and implement an integrated talent acquisition vision, strategy, and execution plan (internal and external) in alignment with Canfor’s corporate strategy.
  • Partners with Human Resources Information Systems and the Technology and Digital department to explore and deploy automated business processes and maximize the use of human capital systems and technology.
  • Identifies and reports on key talent acquisition metrics to inform Senior HR and executive team as to progress, roadblocks, and other relevant performance details.
  • Accountable for delivery of talent in partnership with operations and partners; responsible for leading execution of domestic talent acquisition strategy.
  • Manages yearly recruitment-related contracts and budgets; benchmarks best practices to suggest enhancements or changes that leverage exposure and engagement while controlling costs; Introduces new opportunities to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Partners with Employee Engagement and Corporate Communications to help drive a strong employment brand, and incorporate into recruiting processes; develops branding and outreach strategy.
  • Consultative partnership with HR and Business Leaders in identification and prioritization of current and future pivotal/core talent needs, and the deployment of global recruiting plans; close partnership with Finance to forecast headcount movement to support forecasting and budgeting process
  • Support a diverse and inclusive culture and workforce, and ensure compliance with laws, regulations and company policies
  • Supports internal career mobility through regular communications with business leaders to identify opportunities to fill talent goals; Partners with leadership team and HR Business Partners to identify appropriate steps for internal moves including programs for succession planning, development planning, etc.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining talent market expertise including a comprehensive view of industry trends and competitors; provide expertise in market insights, talent landscape, telling the Canfor story, and an understanding of talent needs
  • Applies subject matter expertise in internal and external workforce trends to evaluate workforce plans, identify gaps and propose solutions to HR and hiring managers
  • Analyzes external industry and labour market trends, competitive threats, and expansion opportunities to integrate into planning
  • Oversees talent acquisition data collection, providing analyses and interpretation/evaluation of workforce metrics


Management, Coaching and Support

  • Leads, coaches and manages the Talent Acquisition team, ensuring clear goals and accountabilities are established and achieved; Ensures individuals' performance and development needs are met and employees are high performing and engaged; Manage workload allocation and performance measures.
  • Manages relationships with hiring managers, determining and implementing global recruitment strategies, facilitates the recruitment process, assists team with extending and negotiating offers according to Canfor guidelines and best practices.
  • Maintains and ensures all open requisitions, records, employment processes and all pertinent applicant and interview data are in full legal compliance with all applicable collective agreements, laws and regulations.
  • Supports various HR related projects on an ad hoc basis, as required.
  • Manage senior/executive level staffing requisitions and conducts full-cycle recruitment when required.
  • Conducts client engagement meetings with operations and departments and maintains strong relationships across the business.
  • Develops and maintains a network of outside contacts including recruiters, agencies, professional organizations, competitors and educational institutes


The Candidate:



  • Post-Secondary education in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related discipline or combination of employment experience and education
  • At least 10 years’ experience in HR with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in talent acquisition with proven leadership competencies and a keen understanding of the importance of data and analytics
  • Demonstrated capacity to innovate and significant experience with process improvement and optimization
  • Significant knowledge of talent acquisition systems including recruitment management and onboarding
  • People leadership and capability in building and leading high-performing teams
  • Strong customer focus to serve the needs of the business, the hiring managers and the candidates
  • An effective communicator, with strong verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of talent acquisition best practices
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem solving and team building skills
  • Experience with human capital reporting and metrics
  • Exceptional project management skills including the ability to develop strategic plans and successfully implement



  • Strong business knowledge and understanding of the forestry, wood/pulp products industry
  • A Chartered Professional in Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or a Registered Professional Recruiter (RPR) designation
