Position Summary:

Reporting to Director, Sustainability & Environment, the Environment Manager - Wood Products is responsible for maintaining and enhancing Canfor's environmental compliance and remediation programs for Canadian wood products manufacturing facilities to help ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and achievement of Canfor's Environmental Policy commitments.

In addition to its accountability for Environment, this role will contribute to development and execution of Canfor’s Corporate Sustainability strategy.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Enhancing and directly assisting operations in maintaining and improving Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
  • Tracking operational environmental performance and assist operations in addressing compliance issues and meeting regulatory reporting requirement
  • Reviewing environmental assessment and licensing requirements for capital projects and facility operational changes and leading related processes
  • Leading the Wood Products internal environmental compliance audit program for Canada
  • Developing training programs for sawmill Environmental Coordinators
  • Identifying need for and managing environmental remediation projects
  • Liaising with peers, interfacing and representing Canfor interests with Industry Associations including COFI, AFPA and FPAC on industry environmental policy matters
  • Supervising the Environment Coordinator, Wood Products Canada.


  • Assisting with development of specific action plans required to achieve sustainability excellence within the forestry industry at Wood Products operations, including establishing and tracking critical metrics.
  • Contributing to annual Sustainability report and related ESG reporting updates.
  • Contributing to training sessions and workshops on sustainability practices throughout the Company
  • Representing the business on matters pertaining to environment and sustainability including inquiries from customers, regulatory bodies, and other key stakeholders

Required Skills and Education:


The Environment Manager will have the following education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry or a related field of study
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant industrial, technical, or regulatory experience
  • Project management and leadership skills
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer, Certified Environmental Professional or other Professional designation is considered an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
  • Since this position is responsible to support at all of our Canadian solid wood operations, up to 50% travel is required.
