The Environment Coordinator, Temporary is responsible for maintaining and enhancing Canfor’s environmental programs for Canadian wood products manufacturing facilities to help ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and achievement of Canfor’s Environmental Policy commitments.  This is a 12 month temporary position


Key Responsibilities   

  • Enhance and directly assist operations in establishing ISO14001-based Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
  • Assist with, and ultimately lead the internal environmental compliance audit program
  • Track operational environmental performance and assist operations in addressing compliance issues and meeting regulatory reporting requirements
  • Assist in development of training programs for mill Environmental Coordinators
  • Assist in establishment of achievable objectives and targets for Canfor’s Environmental Management Program
  • Contribute to annual Sustainability reporting updates.
  • Assist Environment Manager with discharge permit updates for operations as required.
  • Assist Environment Manager with ongoing environmental remediation projects.


The Environment Coordinator will have the following education and experience:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry or a related field of study.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Training, Certified Environmental Professional in Training is an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant industrial, technical, or regulatory experience.
  • Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm in environmental management
  • Experience assisting with EMS and compliance audits
  • Exposure to facility permitting and approvals, and addressing compliance issues
  • Experience with and understanding of government environmental regulatory programs in BC, Alberta and federally.
  • Knowledge of sustainability principles related to Environmental Management.
  • Knowledge of environmental control technologies for forest products facilities
  • Proficiency with common computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Excellent written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Strong emotional intelligence, with the ability to develop good working relationships with a variety of personality types both inside and outside of the organization.
  • Adaptable to and comfortable working in a variety of environments (mill, forest, Corporate, government).
  • Self-motivated with an inherent ability to self-manage.
