The Opportunity:


Canfor is currently seeking a motivated and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Wood Products Canada team to support and oversee engineering for capital projects, and maintenance systems across Wood Products Canada (WPC) operations. 

 

The Role:

 

The Engineer, Capital and Maintenance Systems is a key member of the Wood Products Canada Senior team. The key focus of this role will be on Safety, Innovation, Automation, Technology, Maintenance Systems and Capital Projects.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Reporting directly to the General Manager, Capital and Maintenance Systems the Engineer, Capital and Maintenance Systems areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensuring that safety is a top priority in all aspects of project planning and scoping
  • Provide engineering leadership and direction for all WPC operations
  • Work with department leaders and project engineers to provide accurate design concepts, drawings, cost estimates, economic justifications, appropriation requests, impact studies and recommend suppliers and contractors for proposed projects
  • Diagnosis and analysis for equipment failures
  • Facilitate pre-capital scoping and development for major projects
  • Capital Team performance:
    1. Ensuring best practices are adhered to for maintenance standards, training and cost control
    2. Ensure best practices are adhered to in the planning and scheduling process
    3. Improving internal processes and efficiencies as it pertains to capital execution
    4. Identify needs for new projects and initiate the process
    5. Maintain Component Standards guidelines for WPC to ensure reliability and equipment standardization
  • Act as a technical resource and liaison between key stakeholders for interactions between Canfor and 3rd parties related to engineering, maintenance, and capital projects
    1. Support urgent/emergency resource requirements as they arise

 

Required Skills:

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, superior communication, and exceptional problem-solving skills, as well as:

  • A Degree in Mechanical Engineering, as well as a professional engineer registration or able to be registered with EGBC
  • Several years' broad-based experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Exceptional communication, written and organizational skills, as well as the ability to lead and work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent business acumen with an eye for identifying innovative and value-added opportunities
  • Effectively multi-task and prioritize workload across multiple projects concurrently
  • Build and maintain relationships across many different functions and organization levels, and/or internal and external stakeholders
