Engineer/Technologist, Electrical Reliability - Pulp


At Canfor Pulp, your mandate as Electrical Reliability Engineer/Specialist will be to maximize equipment up time and minimize maintenance costs. Working directly with the E&I team, your extensive knowledge of Medium and High Voltage equipment, Transformers, Power Generators & Turbines, (as well as transformers, switchgear, motors, VFD’s, MCCs, etc.) will be critical as you play a pivotal role in Canfor's Asset Management Program.  Your willingness to learn new concepts, suggest improvements and initiate change when necessary will be expected as you advise maintenance and operations personnel on the diagnosis, possible corrective actions, and life expectancy of problem euipment throughout the Mill.


These objectives will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Leading Defect Elimination processes for root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Providing continuous improvement of preventive maintenance and condition monitoring programs using RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance)
  • Playing a lead role in assessing electrical infrastructure to aid the development and implementation of 5year improvement plans
  • Providing technical support for power and control issues and development of work procedures, standards, addressing of skill deficiencies and development of best practices
  • Liaising with external stakeholders like BC Hydro, Technical Safety BC etc. for maintaining Canadian Electrical Code compliance and substation maintenance / operation best practices


This Reliability leadership role requires a key understanding of how to influence without authority as you work closely with all production and maintenance team members providing broad support throughout the Mill.


The Candidate:

Whether you are an engineer, technologist, or a trades person we encourage you to apply provided you have a strong electrical infrastructure system background, knowledge of control systems and a keen interest in the reliability field gained through an Electrical Engineering Degree (title "Engineer") or Technologist Diploma (title "Technologist").  As an Engineer, you will be a member of, or eligible to register with APEGBC or ASTTBC at least as an Engineer in Training (EIT).  As a tradesperson you will bring forward considerable reliability experience holding a title of Technical Specialist or similar.

  • Experience in a pulp and paper mill or heavy industry maintenance and reliability experience.
  • You should also have demonstrable expertise in the continuous improvement of equipment, problem solving and strong computer proficiency.
