Mill Shipping Coordinator

Reporting to the Machine Room Team Leader, the Mill Shipping Coordinator is the primary contact at the PG Pulp and Paper Mill, Taylor Mill, Intercontinental Mill, and Northwood Mill for coordinating the timely, efficient and cost-effective movement of Canfor's pulp and paper products to the global market.  The Mill Shipping Coordinator is an extension of the mill operations team and provides the link between production planning, warehouse shipping team, and the supply chain team in Vancouver.  They must work well with logistics, planning, sales and marketing staff, mills, and logistics providers.

 

Major Duties:

  • Responsible to insure accurate and smooth execution of product shipping out of the mills along with timely shipping documentation to the applicable carriers for all outbound shipments.
  • Handles mill shipping execution issues to promptly to mitigate economic and operational impacts with close coordination with the corporate supply chain team.
  • Works collaboratively with the Mill Production Planner to maintain mill warehouse optimization and efficient inventory management to support shipping activities.
  • Coordinate shipment diversions and re-assignments with the corporate supply chain team.
  • Keep corporate supply chain team current on shipment issues and any changes related to carrier service levels, documentation requirements, or EDI procedures.
  • Support central Billing Team to resolve documentation variances identified during the invoicing process.
  • Arrange to have mill loading violations corrected in the most economical manner and advise the appropriate sales staff and mill coordinators of the details to ensure charges are allocated to the appropriate group.
  • Validate and approve for payment mill optional service charges, which are in variance to accrued levels
  • Address mill site actions to resolve customer transportation freight claims issues with coordination through the corporate supply chain team.
  • Where required, maintain a full understanding of operations at all mills.
  • Prepare and maintain mill shipping statistical and analytical reports.
  • Stay current on all regulatory issues affecting the movement of Canfor's products.
  • Provide training on the site processes and systems (i.e. Elixir) to new employees that have responsibilities for execution of mill shipping (i.e. forklift drivers).

 

Required Skills:

  • A post-secondary business degree or diploma ideally within the last 3 years, preferably with a focus on transportation / supply chain management
  • Certification in Logistics, Transportation, and Logistics (CLTD) through APICS is a definite asset
  • Previous experience working with databases and business intelligence tools, as well as an understanding of transportation modes and systems, will help you in your success
  • Strong computer skills and solid background working with modern office software and reporting tools
  • Forward thinking and innovative, with an ability to research, analyze, and evaluate critical components of transportation processes to solve complex problems.
  • An interest in developing business skills in a fast-paced dynamic environment with a passion for excellence
  • Self-motivated with effective communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging team environment
