Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader through leading by example and fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture. Provide leadership in the implementation and adherence to Canfor’s Health, Safety, Environmental, policies.
- As a member of the project team, the construction manager must collaborate and influence project activities to ensure adherence to cost, schedule, and progress objectives, find opportunities and mitigate risks, and proactively develop, communicate, and execute strategic action plans to correct deviations.
- Provide construction and constructability support through review of engineering design drawings, and execution schedule and capital cost estimate deliverables, and participation in related meetings.
- Work closely with the project team including external consultants to support decision-making processes and action plan development.
- Carry out constructability reviews.
- Perform construction planning, scheduling and estimating. Work with project and area teams to develop a construction schedule.
- Perform contracting and procurement activities with the procurement team, including scope of work development, review of proposal documents, and contractor selection.
- Ensure contracting out requirements are met.
- Ensure contractor compliance with expectations that employees are qualified and competent to perform the work, consistent with communicated standards and procedures.
- Visit sites regularly during construction — including bid walks, preconstruction walks, in-progress visits, punch walks, and closeouts.
- Review and provide input to safe work plans with contractors.
- Coordinate with operations to ensure all LOTO (lockout tagout) and Safe Work Permit requirements are met.
- Supervision of contractors and subcontractors.
- Schedule, cost and progress tracking and reporting, including analysis and proactive mitigation of variances.
- Identification, communication to the Project Manager and resolution of deficiencies and non-conformances to achieve required quality standards.
- Proactively identify emerging issues and develop action mitigation plans.
- Preparation of Lessons Learned to inform future construction planning.
Education & Experience
- CWB welding inspector level 1designation
- Solid background in piping, welding, millwrighting, and fabrication
- Understanding of engineering drawings with the ability to mark-up, find errors, and communicate changes between contractors and engineering consultants
- Knowledge of codes and standards for fabrication, construction, pressure vessels, and regulated systems
- Ability to handle multiple projects at various stages of development and implementation
- Experience building and managing project schedules, Gantt charts, and other tools using MS Project or equivalent
The salary range for this position is: $98,000 to $122,500
