Chief Engineer – Pulp


The Opportunity:
This is a key leadership role in the Steam & Recovery Department and includes responsibilities to ensure the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of the department.


The Role:
In this role, you will supervise both operating and maintenance aspects of the Steam Plant including power and recovery, mill water supply, and effluent and energy systems.


This position involves:

  • Ensuring the highest levels of safety knowledge and awareness
  • Continuous improvement of the Steam & Recovery operations
  • Annual and long-term budgeting
  • Reviewing, upgrading, and maintaining the integrity of all departmental policies, procedures and regulations as well as developing specific departmental training needs
  • Taking ownership of the planning, execution, and follow-up of all mill and department outages


The Candidate:

  • A valid BC or Interprovincial First Class Power Engineering Certificate, with preference being given to candidates with 12+ years of directly related experience
  • Ten or more years’ experience at a leadership level in Pulp and/or Paper Operations would be beneficial
  • A proven track record consisting of outstanding results to business plan targets
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate others without having direct authority
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities with the flexibility to effectively respond to continually changing internal and external business conditions
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex technical information to business managers
