The Opportunity:
As a member of the Wood Products Finance Team - reporting to the Manager Analytics, Wood Products you will play a key role in the support, maintenance, development and standardization of the Wood Products Group analysis function.

 

The Role:
The Business Analyst's major focus is providing financial analysis to support operational decision making.  You will work closely with cross-functional team members to develop and standardize tools used for both historic trend analysis and forward looking scenario analysis.  Along with strong technical skills, the role will require an in depth understanding of Canfor’s business and the ability to present your ideas in a manner that promotes cooperation and buy-in.

  • Translate high-level user requirements into practical, easy to use tools with minimal direction or supervision.
  • Develop and implement models to understand and assess the tradeoffs associated with competing sawmill/planer production scenarios.
  • Train and support divisional staff on the use and maintenance of analytical models.
  • Develop, maintain, and refine return-to-log models for use in log purchase bid decisions.
  • Liaise with subject matter experts throughout the company to pull together information from forestry, production, and sales.
  • Track progress towards targets on various company-wide initiatives supporting margin improvement.
  • Support regional management teams in ad-hoc analysis.

 

Required Skills:

  • Experience in a manufacturing setting, ideally in the wood products industry
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in financial or business analytics
  • Project management and leadership skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as able to work with limited supervision
  • Demonstrated aptitude regarding computer systems and software (Oracle, Essbase, sawmill optimization software), as well as advanced personal computer skills (MS Office Suite of products)
