The Analyst, Application Support - Pulp Manufacturing Systems will support and improve Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) including Elixir and other applications that fall under the responsibility of the Manufacturing Systems department.  The Analyst, Application Support will be responsible for problem resolution, understand the business processes covered by the software, maintain a strong relationship with key contacts in the business, gather information related to potential enhancements, and coordinate and prioritize the work the vendor does on behalf of Canfor.




Support, Enhancement, Priority and Delivery

  • Support, enhance, and maintain manufacturing applications to assure their availability, reliability, performance, and fit to evolving requirements
  • Effectively resolve production problems (incidents) in a timely manner within service level objectives (SLO)
  • Fulfill service requests
  • Monitor and respond to support requests that come into the support queue for Elixir and other systems, engaging the vendor and business resources when required
  • Interact with business subject matter experts (SME’s) to gather business requirements and specifications, and map out process workflows
  • Work closely with the software vendor(s) to coordinate receipt of new software releases into “Test,” coordinate business and IT resources to test the system, seek approval to promote the application to production and monitor system behavior
  • Work closely with project teams that will modify business processes that touch the application
  • Prioritize work being done by the application vendor(s) on behalf of Canfor
  • Provide technical support for systems projects (preparation for data conversion and business process transition)


Design and Testing

  • Develop test plans, support unit and system level tests, and document results
  • Participate in and guide user testing
  • Deliver user training
  • Ensure current and accurate system documentation, and develop, provide, or coordinate system training, educational tools and materials
  • Design and document interface specifications
  • Translate business requirements to value-added technical solutions


Small Project Delivery

  • Coordinate with implementation partners and service providers to implement business requirements
  • Provide the necessary analyses, requirements gathering and project preparation work for any assigned Manufacturing Systems projects 
  • Manage, or work with the project manager, where appropriate, for the delivery of projects that are within the Manufacturing Systems portfolio
  • Accountable for effectively planning project-related activities
  • Provide input into the development of capital and operating budgets





Education & Experience


  • University degree (Business, Management Information Systems or Computer Science) from a recognized university and/or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in supporting and optimizing systems / applications
  • Proven capability to accurately prepare written business correspondence that is coherent, grammatically correct, effective, professional and engaging
  • Oracle and SQL Server databases and toolsets (PL/SQL, TOAD, etc.)
  • Reporting and BI toolsets (Crystal Reports)
  • Software vendor management
  • Understanding of pulp mill operations and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) functionality
