The Opportunity

Directly reporting to the Manager, Talent Acquisition with functional reporting to the Aboriginal Relationships Manager, you will be primarily responsible for managing resourcing requirements for the hiring needs of a business area dedicated to supporting aboriginal peoples integration while supporting a broad range of administrative duties. You will proactively identify and promote pipelined talent for upcoming roles within Canfor in this demanding but rewarding career opportunity.


Key Responsibilities

Manage key relationships within operating divisions and departments

  • Support enhanced business, recruitment and educational relationships with First Nations
  • Research government grants and carry out proposal writing
  • Attend career fairs and assist the HR department in the recruitment of First Nations within our workforce
  • Assist in following up with First Nations candidates interested in working for Canfor, individually or in groups – this includes updating resumes, the application process and interview preparation
  • Assist in following up with actions that stem from meetings with First Nations groups
  • Provide administrative support for Canfor’s First Nations Working Group
  • Gain full working knowledge of ATS Recruitment Software; utilize ATS to manage full cycle recruitment and staffing objectives.


The Candidate

  • Degree or diploma in a relevant discipline (i.e. First Nations studies, natural resource management, Human Resources, Business Administration), or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ relevant working experience
  • Preference for experience working with First Nations communities, and/or in recruitment
  • Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) or a Registered Professional Recruiter (RPR) designation would be considered an asset.
  • Aboriginal ancestry preferred.


Key Qualifications

  • Well established relationship management skills – experience in working with and providing consultative advice to hiring teams within operations.
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment and the ability to use discretion and diplomacy while maintaining confidentiality, ethics and company standards.
  • Proactive and collaborative team player with a strong customer service focus and natural ability to be part of the team and collaborate across departments.
  • Strong understanding of and respect for First Nations values and culture
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and collaboratively to apply those improvements.
