HR Manager- DeRidder

The Human Resources Manager is directly responsible for the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of the human resource function at the DeRidder sawmill by providing services, assisting in the development and administration of policies and procedures, recruiting and onboarding employees, and advising management on employee relations needs.  This position is a key part of the plant management team and reports to the Plant Manager.



Essential duties and responsibilities:


  • Partner with company management to ensure employees maintain the highest standards with respect to safety at all times and ensure the team follows all policies, procedures, practices, and regulations.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to seek out candidates to fill existing openings
  • Interview, gather, and analyze information to adequately evaluate and pre-qualify applicants for open positions.
  • Work with Plant Management to ensure excellent employee relations including open communication and follow-up to employee concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions. 
  • Ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are followed in compliance with applicable state and federal laws.
  • Plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals.
  • Coordinate management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, performance reviews, safety, and sexual harassment.
  • Keep employee records related to benefits plan participation and personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
  • Manage resolution of complex employee relations issues by providing appropriate investigation and counseling leadership.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Administer performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization.
  • Assist in the administration of benefits programs such as health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurances, annual leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
  • Work with management to investigate incidents and prepare reports. 
  • Ensure injured employees are provided with appropriate follow-up and care.
  • Assists with payroll administration including timekeeping, pay and position changes, garnishments, etc. and ensure company guidelines are followed for pay. 
  • Review disciplinary documentation to ensure compliance with applicable laws and fair and equitable treatment of employees. 
  • Prepare employee separation notices and related documentation, and conduct exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
  • Represent the organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
  • Contract with outside suppliers to provide employee services as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned.




  • 3-5 years’ experience in a human resources management or equivalent management experience
  • BS degree at an accredited college or university preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid understanding of the key principles of employment law
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business documents. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations including during disciplinary hearings or staff conflicts
  • Proficient with computer technologies including MS Word, MS Excel, and Outlook Email/Calendar
  • Knowledge of Kronos and SuccessFactors HR systems preferred
