The Silviculture Supervisor is responsible for implementing woodlands activities in silviculture, planning, or permitting within their operation while meeting all Company commitments.  This is a full-time position and a member of the Canfor Woodlands team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure activities are conducted in compliance with all applicable Occupational Health and Safety Requirements, forestry legislation, Canfor’s Environmental Policy, Forestry Principles, and Forestry Management System
  • Implement and sustain efficiencies and cost savings initiatives
  • Participate in the development of annual budgets to achieve business plan targets.
  • Implement and manage Silviculture program activities, which include post-harvest assessments, site preparation, seed collection, reforestation, silviculture surveys, brushing, weeding as well as adhering to applicable reporting requirements.
  • Block and road design to meet manufacturing facility requirements for profile, fibre quality and cost; ensure available volume requirements are met; landscape level planning projects as needed and SFI certification targets are met.
  • Manage and complete all activities associated with cutting permit and road permit acquisitions, including site plans, appraisals and engineering cost estimates; facilitate all required assessments on blocks (archeology, terrain, riparian) as needed.
  • Tracking, reporting, and analyzing of safety, quality, cost and delivery results.
  • Maintain positive relations with various stakeholders, the public and government agencies.
  • Providing and supporting a positive atmosphere for personal, professional and team development.

The Candidate:

  • University Degree or Technical Diploma with a minimum of 5 years forestry experience.
  • Registered or eligible to register with the ABCFP
  • Excellent leadership, communication & project management skills, with the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of applicable B.C. legislation and policies.
  • Proficient in using a computer & related software and forestry applications.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
