Planning Supervisor

Posting ID:      26879
Position Type:    Regular
City:    Grande Prairie, AB, Canada
Location:   Grande Prairie

A natural leader, you work effectively with others and display a successful, productive management style. You prevent problems from occurring, have an acute attention to detail, and communicate with credibility and confidence. You maintain the highest safety standards and influence by example. Overall, you’re pretty “tree-mendous”.

As the Planning Supervisor, we don't expect you to sit behind a screen and design cut blocks.  You will be instrumental in planning field and office activities, while managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This is a combination of office and field work as you will be responsible for reconnaissance, block design, volume requirements and future design, while you interact with government utilizing your excellent knowledge of Alberta legislation and policies to meet customer demands and certification requirements.

You will manage third-party relationships with trappers, ranchers, guide/outfitters, and recreation groups and will assist in the implementation of the operational aspects of Canfor Grand Prairie's Forest Management Plan

A day in the life of a planning forester will include:

  • Conduct both field and office activities which relate to Planning, including block design and reconnaissance in a safe and productive manner.
  • Assist in the implementation of the operational aspects of Canfor Grand Prairie's Forest Management Plan.
  • Ensure compliance with operational plans, company policy and legal requirements.
  • Work and form positive relationships with Internal Customers, Team members, External Customers, First Nations, Government Agencies, the Public and other Stakeholders.
  • Achieve key performance measures by applying the principles of performance management.
  • Preparing budgets and managing costs within your specific responsibilities.
  • Participating in Continuous Improvement initiatives and other team projects as requested.

In an ideal world, you have experience with LIDAR, ArcMap GIS and highflying success using drones. You also come armed with a University Degree or Technical Diploma specifically RPF or RFT. For bonus points, you're experienced in supporting archaeology surveys and are technically savvy and proficient in software/forestry applications like LRM and/or Forest Ops.
