As a Planer Supervisor, you’ll be working for one of the largest and best-managed forestry companies in the world as you apply your skills to our daily manufacturing activities. Canfor is deeply engaged in innovation and technology, so you will be utilizing cutting-edge systems for tracking, reporting, and root cause analysis of safety, quality, cost, and result delivery. You’ll be responsible for helping to maximize product quality and profits by optimizing production standards and your strong attention to detail will come into play as you prepare budgets, manage costs, and provide support to various administrative and potentially environmental management activities.
Reporting to the Planer Superintendent, the Planer Supervisor is responsible for managing operations on assigned shift(s) that achieve/meet requirements for safety, environment, quality. As part of the Plant’s leadership team, you will contribute to building and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement of processes, efficiencies, and productivity.
A Day in the Life of a Planer Supervisor includes:
- Always maintain the highest standards with respect to safety, leading by example and ensuring the team follows all policies, procedures, practices and Occupational Health & Safety regulations
- Address unsafe conditions as required
- Identify opportunities to improve and look for opportunities to reduce cost, while safely meeting production targets. Ensure timely action is taken when targets are not met
- Coach, train and support team members to maximize performance
- Foster a culture of open communication with employees in all departments and at all levels
- Engage all employees to provide valuable input into work processes and systems
- Ensure the timely implementation of key Corporate and operational initiatives
For this role, you'll come equipped with:
- Three to five years’ experience in the sawmilling industry or other heavy industry
- Proven supervisory and leadership abilities and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Safe work habits and a working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety regulations
- Working knowledge of web-based computer applications and Microsoft Office
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills
