As a Landuse Coordinator, you’ll play a key role on Canfor’s Woodlands team, overseeing the planning, execution, and integration of landuse and roaduse activities across the division. This full-time position is ideal for a strategic, detail-oriented professional with strong coordination skills, a solid understanding of forest land management, and a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement.
Reporting to the Forestry Superintendent, you will work closely with the Roads Supervisor, Harvesting Superintendent, and the broader woodlands team to support the division’s long-term operational goals while ensuring compliance, efficiency, and sustainability in land and road use practices.
A day in the life of a Landuse Coordinator includes:
- Manage all divisional landuse and roaduse activities, ensuring alignment with operational objectives
- Supervise external contractors related to landuse, road patrol, and security
- Oversee timber damage assessments, invoicing, and internal/external land disposition processes
- Administer roaduse agreements, crossing approvals, and third-party land access consents
- Coordinate communication of road maintenance activities with users and ensure accurate roaduse invoicing
- Ensure effective integration of landuse and roaduse planning across functional teams
- Maintain strong relationships with government agencies, third parties, and stakeholders
- Support forest certification and stewardship reporting through accurate data management and timely submissions
- Represent Canfor in regional and industry initiatives, including the AFPA Landuse Sub-Committee
For this role, you’ll come equipped with:
- Strong understanding of AB’s landuse regulations, permitting processes, and road legislation
- Demonstrated ability to manage contractors and negotiate agreements
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel to field sites as required
Assets, but not required
- Eligibility for registration with the Alberta Association Forest Management Professionals or equivalent
- Post-secondary education in forestry, natural resources, or a related field
- Proficiency with GIS, MS Office, and forest management systems
