The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Regional Controller - the Financial Accountant will be responsible for a full range of operational, financial and management accounting reporting and analysis for Canfor’s manufacturing facilities in Fort St John and Chetwynd. This is a developmental role in which the successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain experience in various facets of accounting. This may include working with and providing coverage for Divisional Accountants as needed.

 

The Financial Accountant's primary focus is to provide the operations management team with relevant financial and statistical analysis and information, and to participate in value-added decision support. Duties will consist of assisting the Divisional Accountants in the areas of manufacturing operations including Accounts Payable and Payroll review. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for the timely completion of financial closes, through to the generation of weekly costing reports, forecasting, capital processes and monthly financial statements. Occasional travel between the operations is required.

 

Major Duties:

  • Provide operational and financial analysis for the manufacturing facilities
  • Ensuring compliance with Corporate policies and GAAP
  • Support and provide back up for Divisional Accountants
  • Month end duties, including: adjusting entries, review of results, reporting, balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assisting superintendents and supervisors in departmental budget control, cost/benefit analysis and providing financial information and recommendations
  • Daily and weekly key stat and cost control reporting

 

The successful candidate will bring the following experience and expertise:

  • Bachelor of Commerce, Major in Accounting; students who are working towards their degree and have a commitment to obtain their CPA will be considered
  • Commitment to obtaining a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation; preference will be given to senior level students or those with the designation
  • Proficiency in MS Excel
  • Ability to travel a few days a month to Canfor mills in BC
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Preference may be given to candidates whom are open to future relocation opportunities within BC
