The Opportunity:
Canfor is currently looking for a strong leader with proven supervisory experience to join our team as a Residual Fibre Supervisor.

The Role:

The Residual Fibre Supervisor reports directly to the Trucking & Residual Fibre Superintendent and will oversee all activities associated with the Skookumchuck whole log chipping operation and the Cranbrook mechanical shop and some liaison with Wood Products staff related to residual chips and short fibre produced and sold from Canfor Elko, Radium and Wynnwood sawmills.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure activities are conducted in compliance with all applicable Occupational Health and Safety Requirements, forestry legislation, Canfor’s Environmental Policy, Forestry Principles, and Forestry Management System.
  • Supervise unionized operators, scalers and mechanics associated with the Whole Log Chipper site and Road Maintenance
  • Ensure employees meet all training requirements and safe work procedures
  • Monitor and track chip quality and strive to optimize chip quality bonus 
  • Manage a busy, safe and efficient log yard at Skookumchuck that receives and chips approximately 35 logging truckloads per day
  • Assists in preparing budgets, forecasting and tracking of performance
  • Assists in setting and tracking KPI’s
  • Responsible for submitting employee hours to payroll and all costs to accounting
  • Liaison with Skookumchuck Pulp Inc representatives
  • Liaison with chip transportation companies, customers and equipment suppliers
  • Liaison with equipment manufacturers, dealers, lease companies, parts suppliers to ensure mobile and chipping units are operating efficiently
  • Liaison with appropriate sawmill staff to maximize quantities, quality and revenue for residual chip and short fibre and ensure it is transported efficiently to the customer
  • Support strong working relationships with Woodlands Operations and Wood Products staff


The Candidate:

  • University Degree or Technical Diploma in Wood Products or Forestry or Natural Resource Management would be an asset
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, project management skills, and an ability to work within a diverse team environment
  • Experience in supervising a unionized work force
  • Excellent literacy and proficient use with computers and managing real time data and the software behind it
  • Experience across a spectrum of forestry work including cruising, planning, harvesting and silviculture would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of applicable BC legislation and policies.
  • Preference may be given to a candidate that has five years or more of supervisory experience in fields of forestry, environmental science or wood products.
