Reporting to and as directed by the Supervisor, the Operator will be responsible for running a variety of heavy duty equipment including, but not limited to a grader (primary responsibility), loader, backhoe, cat-bulldozer D6, dump/gravel truck, and/or forklift. Additional duties may include using a chain saw, loading and unloading of culverts, reading maps, orientation. Road inspections and sign placement as directed. Speaking clearly and concisely when using a radio.


Key Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the Grader Operator include, but are not limited to:



  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Attend safety meetings and inspections as directed.
  • Assist in the investigation of any damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company’s Safety Program.
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
  • Clear and concise communication following radio policies/procedures.


Equipment Operation

  • Operate the grader and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Periodically transit Grader on public roadways, maintaining proper awareness of ones surroundings.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the grader.
  • Ensure grader is being operated at correct speeds for working conditions.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of best practices for grading logging roads.
  • If directed, train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of the grader.
  • Operate other heavy equipment and other construction related duties as required.



  • Participate as a vital team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required.
  • Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
  • Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.
  • Collaborate with Mobile Shop when operational repairs are identified or required on equipment.




          Education, Training and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred
  • Must hold Class One Driver’s License


    Work Experience

  • Minimum 2 to 5 years’ experience within the road construction industry
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience operating a Grader is required.
  • Preference is for experience operating in a variety of forest road terrain.


    Technical Knowledge

  • Knowledge of grader and other heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements.
  • Able to work with limited day to day supervision,
  • Periodically review plans with supervisor for managing work hours during different operating seasons.
