Forklift Operator

 

Lift Truck Operators load customer and company trucks and railcars using a forklift. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Responsibilities of the Shipping Lift Truck Operator include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Operate a large industrial forklift to maneuver and lift packs of lumber and other items as necessary to complete tasks.  Utilize hand and foot controls to safely perform tasks.
  • Review a picklist.  Locate, pick-up, and load packs of lumber for customers using a forklift.  Ensure accuracy and timeliness of loads.
  • Distinguish between different grades and sizes of lumber. 
  • Identify quality defects and take appropriate action to resolve quality issues.
  • Work with other lift truck operators and management to complete Shipping responsibilities and respond to customer needs.
  • Assist with spilled lumber by physically moving and lifting boards weighing 5 to 25lbs. 
  • Perform cleanup duties as required in shipping area.
  • Perform inspections and check sheets on industrial forklifts to ensure they are in good operating condition.

  • Standing and walking
  • Reaching with hands and arms
  • Climbing up and down on a large forklift
  • Stooping, kneeling, or crouching, as needed, usually when straightening spilled lumber
  • Lifting and/or moving from 5 to 50 lbs., as needed

Work Environment:

  • Works in an air-conditioned forklift cab
  • Outdoor weather conditions when outside of the lift
  • Vibration
